Why Sleep Has Always Been My Top Priority
Share
I’ve always been someone who values sleep.
Even in my 20s, I preferred eight hours. I’ve always loved a nap. It’s what my body naturally gravitates toward. But life doesn’t always make that easy.
There were seasons where I was trying to do everything—build a career, be present for my family, stay connected, have fun, keep up. And in those moments, sleep wasn’t always consistent.
Not because I didn’t value it—but because I was learning how to balance a full life.
What I’ve Come to Understand
As I’ve gotten older, one thing has become very clear:
Sleep isn’t just something I enjoy.
It’s something my body depends on.
It shows up in ways that are hard to ignore.
In my energy. In my mood. In my skin.
In how I think, respond, and move through the day. When I’m rested, everything feels more aligned. When I’m not, I feel it immediately.
There’s a visible difference—and over time, it adds up.
Sleep Starts Before You Go to Bed
One of the biggest shifts for me has been realizing that sleep isn’t just about what happens at night. It’s shaped by how I move through my entire day.
My activity levels. My mindset. How I handle stress. Even how late I’m on my phone.
If my day feels overstimulated, my sleep usually reflects that.
If I’ve created space to slow down—even a little—my body follows.
It’s all connected.
The Role Magnesium Plays in My Routine
Alongside my habits, there’s one thing I’ve consistently come back to: magnesium.
It’s something I take daily, and over time, I’ve noticed how much it supports my ability to actually unwind.
Not in a dramatic way—but in a steady, noticeable shift.
It helps my body relax.
It supports a calmer nervous system.
It makes it easier to transition into rest.
Magnesium has been part of my routine for years. I’ve tried different forms and approaches depending on what I need, but the intention has always been the same—supporting my body in a way that feels natural and sustainable.
I’ve personally rotated between a few I trust, including formulas from Rho Nutrition and Foria —both have been part of my routine at different times.
But what I’ve learned is that it’s less about the brand—and more about the consistency.
Giving your body the support it needs, regularly, is what makes the difference.
For me, magnesium has simply become part of that rhythm.
It’s Not Just About Feeling Rested
There’s so much more happening during sleep than we realize.
It’s when the body resets. When the nervous system settles.
When the brain processes and clears what it doesn’t need.
There’s a growing conversation around longevity right now—and one thing continues to come up:
Sleep is foundational.
Even the people who are most focused on optimizing their health build their lives around it.
Not perfectly—but intentionally.
And that’s the part that resonates with me.
Real Life vs. Ideal Life
If I’m being honest, I don’t always get perfect sleep.
There are nights that run later than planned.
Moments where life takes priority.
Times where connection, work, or just being present matters more.
And I think that’s real. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s awareness.
It’s knowing what your body needs—and coming back to it consistently.
What I Pay Attention to Now
Instead of overcomplicating it, I pay attention to the signals.
My skin will tell me.
My mood will tell me.
My energy will tell me.
Sleep shows up everywhere.
It’s not just about how you feel when you wake up—it’s how you function throughout your entire day.
And more than anything, I’ve learned this: You can’t fake being well-rested.
Where I’ve Landed
Sleep has always been something I’ve prioritized.
Not perfectly—but consistently enough to know how much it matters.
And now, I see it as part of a bigger picture.
Not just rest—but longevity.
Not just sleep—but how I want to feel every day.
Clear. Grounded. Energized.
For me, it’s simple.
Sleep isn’t something I earn.
It’s something I protect.
A Small Shift to Support Your Routine
If you’re looking to support your sleep more intentionally, start simple.
Create a little more space at night.
Be mindful of your rhythm.
And support your body where it makes sense.
